No sunbeds and no parasols at Komos Beach. This begs the question: is this good news or bad news?<\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

There are no sunbeds or parasols on Komos Beach this year – so far. There may be several reasons for this and it may have several effects. However, this can also change at any time.<\/p>\n

From the point of view of the hospitality business and the majority of holidaymakers, the lack of sunbeds and parasols is already a problem because fewer people are coming. Those who want sunbeds are currently travelling to Matala or Kalamaki. One of the consequences of this is that there are no more sunbeds in Matala in the mornings and a certain Mallorca mentality is spreading.<\/p>\n

No umbrella, no shade<\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div>

The lack of parasols means, above all, the lack of shade – and given the current temperatures, that is a considerable issue. On the other hand, you can now see a lot of self-help projects on Komos Beach, which are being set up and taken down with varying degrees of skill – and learning to fly in between. That’s quite something.<\/p>\n

There are also no showers, with one exception, and that can also be a shame.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Why?<\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div>

Komos Beach stretches from the nudist beach at Karibu to the rocks at Taverna Komos and Bunga Bunga. The beach is located in an archaeological protection zone and the popular turtles like to lay their eggs here.<\/p>\n

However, this has both been the case for a long time and has never led to umbrellas not being put up throughout the summer.<\/p>\n

Komos, on the other hand, has always been late.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Apart from the fact that Komos Beach is probably the most beautiful beach in Crete, you can survive there even without umbrellas and sunbeds: The two wonderful sisters on the huge panoramic terrace of Taverna Komos, the still-hip Bunga Bunga, the drinks lorry at the currently only shower and, of course, the very special Karibu – they’re all open and looking forward to seeing you.<\/p>\n

In addition to food and drink in many different varieties, there is shade everywhere.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

In recent years, Komos has always been the last stretch of beach where sunbeds and parasols have been set up, and not before the end of June or even the beginning of July, i.e. the start of the main season.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This is due to the need to protect Carenta and archaeological sites, but it is also due to authorisations, delivery dates and municipal schedules.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

So let’s be patient and see how beautiful Komos Beach is even without sunbeds, otherwise it will soon be as crowded as Matala.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>
