Taverna Babis in Pitsidia
King & Queen
‘Where the guest is king, the staff should be princes and princesses.’
Wilhelm Ludwig Wekhrlin (1739 – 1792)
Babis
The road to Matala in downtown Pitsidia is known for its great traditional cuisine. But Babis and Doxoula Saradinou and their taverna ‘Babis’ are in many ways king and queen.
The menu offers pretty much everything you can imagine Greek cuisine to be, and it would be hard to find better tzatziki or moussaka on this island.
But what makes a visit to Babis Pitsidia an unforgettable experience, apart from the food, is the setting and the owners. It’s a pleasure to experience Babis and Doxoula. Babis welcomes, entertains and cares, Doxia is an unbeatable cook.
If the term ‘’cosy‘’ applies anywhere, it’s here. The Babis tavern impresses with an impressive number of country flags, reminiscent of a flag quiz with Sheldon Cooper. There is also a life-size griffon vulture, lots of butterflies, information boards and slightly yellowed photos. Overall, the interior has a strong vintage feel to it, but it’s ‘real’.
Babis gives its guests the feeling that all is right with the world, and that’s nice. At least when it comes to dining.
